Hi friends,
Jess here. For the friends I haven’t met yet, I’m the founder of fwb.
Our lease for the Clubhouse is up on September 30, and it feels like a good time to reflect on the past two and a half years and talk about the future.
The vision for fwb has always been to build a sex-positive community that is both sustainable and accessible. At the core of that vision is the Clubhouse, a space designed for pleasure, intimacy, and play.
A few months after starting fwb, I found out I was pregnant. Shutting down the Clubhouse was the practical, responsible choice. But our small community rallied. Friends stepped up to help host. You offered your time, your talents, your care. And when I had to step away to give birth, a small group of incredible humans kept it going.
When we had to close our first Clubhouse (RIP), the community rallied once again and supported fwb through a hiatus with monthly memberships, volunteering, and moral support while we hunted for a new space. Because of that support, we were able to sign a year lease last August.
Over the last 9 months, the spirit of stepping up, co-creating, and holding space together has grown into the core of fwb. Dozens of friends have hosted 250+ events at the Clubhouse. This model of community-led programming has diversified our offerings in the most wonderful ways. I’m excited to continue in this direction and provide even more resources and support for our hosts so that our members can continue to have experiences from the unique perspectives and identities that our hosts embody.
We’ve also faced challenges along the way. In February, our payment processor closed our account and every monthly membership (which covered our basic operational costs) was cancelled along with it. This is the reality of running a small, sex-positive business: our bank accounts, social media accounts, and tech tools are at constant risk of being shut down.
With these challenges, rising costs, and so many of us stretched thin, I've done a lot of soul-searching the last few months about whether fwb is worth continuing. And here's what I keep coming back to: we need places to gather. We need shared space, touch, laughter, and vulnerability.
I also believe, deeply, that pleasure is a form of liberation; that talking and connecting and flirting and touching and exploring and orgasming is a radical use of our time. In a culture that wants us productive, isolated, and afraid, choosing to experience pleasure and joy together is its own kind of resistance.
Whenever I imagine a world without spaces like fwb, I realize how important it is to fight to keep them alive. It matters now more than ever.
our ask
From now until August 28, we are asking our community to rally so that we can sign another year lease for the Clubhouse.
Our minimum goal is $5,000 in monthly memberships, with a stretch goal of $6,500/mo.
Reaching that number means we can:
Cover our fixed, basic operational costs
Keep the Clubhouse affordable for our partners and hosts
Fairly compensate our team
Keep ticket prices accessible to members, including sliding scale options
Have cushion to experiment with more niche programming
Ensure the Clubhouse is maintained to a high standard
how to support
Monthly memberships
The easiest way to support the Clubhouse is to snag an $8/mo membership on our Luma. We also offer a $18/mo and $30/mo. You can cancel at any time from your Luma dashbaord.
Make a pledge:
Annual membership — pay as a lump sum or in monthly installments.
Event pack — purchase passes to any play, co-play, social, workshop, and partner event at the Clubhouse.
Clubhouse rental — purchase a voucher to use anytime September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027.
fwb Play Party game — own a little piece of fwb history and take it with you wherever you go. 50% of proceeds from sales go towards supporting the ongoing operations of fwb.
One-time contribution to our Clubhouse Fund — help us invest in improvements for the Clubhouse, including a better sound system, upgraded decor, more toys, better furniture, etc
We won’t invoice you until we hit our minimum goal, and you don’t have to pay until August 31, 2026.
We know times are hard right now, so only contribute if you are able. Thank you, friends, for being a part of this vibrant community and making a space like the Clubhouse possible.
Xo, Jess
